  At Last!

Here are the first 4 chicks I have managed to breed for a few years now,
they are split silvers, the hen I uesd is a normal, but I have no history
with her as I got her from a pet shop, so unless she has been split all the
chicks should be normal colour looking.

At last things are starting to happen with the bird room, I have now turned the shed around (a) to stop the sunlight entering the bird room, and (b) to give me the width for the external flights. The whole shed was dismantled to enable me to build 15 small platforms to level the shed as the ground sloped away at the back, also it was a good time to treat the old shed with some wood preservative, plus a whole new roof covering, tonight I have put the guttering along the back of the shed, also I am taking out the windows to see why they are leaking, I now need to make a new widow sill so the rain water can run away from the windows instead of laying on a flat surface. I will take some photos soon.

Here are the first photos of my bird room, sadly the apple tree in the photo has to go at some point as it will be in the way of the out door flights, the shed is 10 foot by 8 foot if you look on my website at my first bird room this is the same shed I am using here, I have now finished the windows and guttering, today I have lined the shed with 40m thick polystyrene for insulation, it’s well worth doing, in the hot summer it helps keep the bird room cool when the sun hit’s the shed, and in the winter it keeps the shed warm. This will be a shared  bird room with my son, he is now breeding budgies with his first round of chicks fledged the hen has started a new round of eggs, my young javas are doing well soon the will be out of the nest box.

Guttering Polystyrene for insulation

Here is the Polystyrene finished, next I will be
putting down the hardboard on the floor
to give a smooth finish.
